Some keys on your UHK may produce repeated keystrokes or not produce keystrokes at all. This troubleshooting guide should help you fix or at least identify the cause of the issue.
Issues affecting individual keys
- The switch may not reliably make contact with the socket. Remove the switch using the provided keycap and switch puller, bend its pins slightly to make contact with the socket, then reinstall it.
- The switch may be broken. You can easily replace the problematic switch with a new one by using the keycap and switch puller we provided. (You can swap two switches to test whether one is broken.)
- The socket may have separated from the circuit board. If swapping the switches of a good and bad key leaves the bad key bad, then a separated socket is likely the cause. You can double-check it by disassembling the affected keyboard half and visually inspecting the socket. If you have a soldering iron, you can fix the socket by touching its affected pad(s) with the iron without losing your warranty.
- If you have UHK 60 v1, unlike other UHK models, it doesn't have sockets, but the switches are soldered onto the circuit board. If you want to fix it, you'll need soldering equipment; you can disassemble your UHK, then desolder the affected switches and solder new ones. Alternatively, after removing their keycaps, you can spray contact cleaner into the affected switches while pressing them several times to remove any contamination inside.
- If a row or column of keys on your UHK 60 v1 is affected, it was likely damaged by ESD. Repair is possible but difficult.
Issues affecting all keys
Most of the following issues are only related to the UHK 60.
Connectivity issues:
- Disconnect the bridge cable and merge the keyboard halves. The bridge cable may be faulty.
- Use the stock bridge cable. A third-party bridge cable may be the culprit, especially if it's long or contains thin wires.
- Use another USB cable. The current USB cable may be broken, so try replacing it.
- Disconnect the modules. The connection of your modules may not be reliable, triggering various issues with your UHK. If you've already used your UHK for a while, clean its contacts where the modules mate with isopropyl alcohol or contact cleaner spray. If the issue persists, please fasten these screws.
Power issues:
The following may help resolve keystroke-related issues and LED display flicker.
- Connect your UHK directly to your computer. USB hubs, KVM switches, and docking stations may provide insufficient power.
- Connect your UHK to other computers. Some power supplies and chargers provide insufficient or noisy power.
- Connect your UHK via a powered USB hub. A powered USB hub should provide enough power to your UHK.
- Disable/dim the LEDs in Agent. The power consumption of your UHK will be significantly reduced in this way, which may resolve the issue.
Electromagnetic interference issues:
- Put your wireless devices farther away. Phones, tablets, and other wireless devices can interfere with your UHK 60, especially during a phone call or when transferring large amounts of data.
- Connect your UHK to a battery-powered laptop that isn't connected to mains power. If noisy mains power is the cause, your UHK 60 should work this way.
- Try your UHK 60 at another location; the farther, the better. Your environment may be affected by EMI (electromagnetic interference). Some appliances, such as treadmills, can generate electrostatic discharge, even your chair!
- If everything else fails, it's worth tweaking the UHK60-related i2cBaudRate value.
